As the name suggests, ski mountaineering is a combination of the techniques of snow skiing and mountaineering. As is the case with traditional mountaineers around the world, ski mountaineers enjoy the challenge of conquering a mountain. Unlike, traditional mountaineers, however, ski mountaineers then take on the challenge of skiing down the mountain they have just climbed.

Head South from June to August

2009 International Ski Federation World Cup
Five of America’s most prestigious ski resorts will be hosting International Ski Federation World Cup events during the 2008/2009 winter sport season. These world-class snow skiing and snowboarding competition venues were approved by the International Ski Federation (FIS) Congress during its recent meetings held in Cape Town, South Africa.

46th International Ski Congress
Snow skiing is generally not a sport readily associated with sunny South Africa. However, the International Ski Federation (FIS) Council chose to hold its spring 46th International Ski Congress in South Africa’s mother city, Cape Town, thereby making history as the first-ever FIS Congress to be held on the African continent.
