The Winter Wonderland of Discovery Ski Area

Fun-filled Kootenay Coldsmoke Festival
The second Kootenay Coldsmoke Festival is set to take place from 22 to 25 February 2008 at one of Western Canada’s top backcountry skiing destinations, the Whitewater Winter Resort in Nelson, BC. This area is known for its dependable dry snowfalls often totaling more than ten meters during a snow skiing season, making it a destination of choice for many snow sport enthusiasts.

Powder Mountain SuperFly Open 2008
The increasingly popular sport of snowkiting will be the focus of the 2008 Powder Mountain SuperFly Open to be held at the Powder Mountain Resort in Utah on 8 to 10 February 2008. Powder Mountain is considered to have some of the best snow skiing conditions in the U.S.A. and spectators and participants at the 2008 Powder Mountain SuperFly Open, which forms part of the U.S. Snowkite Tour, can expect to enjoy a memorable event.

Great Competition at the 2008 Vasaloppet China
The city of Changchun in China will host its sixth Vasaloppet event from 30 December 2007 to 3 January 2008. This increasingly popular snow skiing event is based on Vasaloppet Sweden, the biggest ski event in the world with over 45,000 participants each year. Vasaloppet China started off in 2003 with about 750 participants and by the 2007 event 16,200 skiers were participating. Organizers anticipate that 2008 Vasaloppet China will be bigger than ever before.

The Fun-Filled Ullr Fest in Breckenridge
According to Norse mythology, Thor, the god of thunder, has a stepson named Ullr. Ullr became the winter god and had a passion of the cold. Because of his love for the earth, he would cover the ground in a blanket of snow to protect it against the cold winter months. With his good intentions came the joy of skiing around the country and Ullr would use any excuse or opportunity to glide across the snow. He became the master of the snow, traveling at speeds that no one could match. His travels brought him to Breckenridge in Colorado, and this is where he chose to live.
