Five of America’s most prestigious ski resorts will be hosting International Ski Federation World Cup events during the 2008/2009 winter sport season. These world-class snow skiing and snowboarding competition venues were approved by the International Ski Federation (FIS) Congress during its recent meetings held in Cape Town, South Africa.

46th International Ski Congress

Injury Prevention when Skiing and Boarding

Snow skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts agree that their favorite sport, although often providing an amazing adrenaline rush, is relatively low risk. Some claim that the risk of injury during snow skiing is less than 1%. However, the fact remains that mishaps can happen. Sometimes these are major, requiring expensive medical treatment and time off work, not to mention the crushing disappointment of a ruined holiday. At other times, they may be minor soft tissue injuries that, while possibly not needing medical attention, can nevertheless disrupt holiday plans. In the light of this, it is clear that injury prevention has much value to snow sport fans.

FIS World Cup Championships 2007

The FIS World Cup Championships are separated into different divisions, allowing each competitor to compete in their own class and style. The championship divisions include alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, masters, ski jumping and freestyle skiing. Each year the competition gets better and every year brings the old faces back and lures the young talent to pit their skills against the world’s best. Lake Louise as World Cup Venue

The Lake Louise Ski Area in the Canadian Rockies will host the world’s best Downhill and Super Galpine athletes at the World Cup ski racing 2006-07 speed events. The World Cup Series is the most important alpine skiing circuit sanctioned by the International Ski Federation (FIS). Ski Mont Gabriel Gears Up

The Freestyle FIS World Cup competition at Ski Mont Gabriel is about two months away and efforts are on at full steam to transform the sites, mobilize funding and volunteers as well as fine-tune the programming of the events. The resort facilities are being upgraded to meet the specifications of the International Ski Federation with an investment of a half-million dollars. The snow skiing resort has a five-year agreement with the Canadian Freestyle Ski Association and the upgrade was a part of the conditions.
