First opened in 1954 as a small ski resort with basic facilities, Mount Snow has grown tremendously over the years. From its initial seven trails and four lifts, it now boasts a whopping 145 trails, 23 ski lifts and 757 acres of ski-able land. Facilities have undergone constant upgrades and improvements and there are now four different lodges to enjoy. The resort is situated in the Vermont’s Green Mountains.

Mount Snow is located at an elevation of 1900 ft, with a vertical drop of 1700 ft. It caters for both skiers and snowboarders and has great facilities for freestylers. These include four terrain parks, a 400 ft super pipe, a half pipe and a jib park. If you’re looking for something different, you can try ice skating, sledding, snowmobiling, bowling, snow tubing and bowling. There is even a movie theatre where you can keep up with the latest releases. The trails are rated 22% beginner, 49% intermediate, 26% advanced and 3% expert. Once you’ve worked up an appetite on the slopes, you can head to any of the mountain’s great restaurants and diners. In the summer months the resort stays open but the activities change somewhat. Mount Snow in Vermont has become known as a leader in snow skiing facilities and, together with the other three faces of Carinthia Mountain, namely the Main Face, Sunbrook and the North Face, skiers and snowboarding enthusiasts have been flocking to this resort for years, to enjoy their extended skiing seasons, which are ensured by the resorts’ high tech fan guns. Now, due to the growing number of freestyle skiers, Mount Snow has been working on getting the mountain face of Carinthia Mountain ready, to become one large ninety five acre freestyle terrain park.

The changes to the mountain face mean that there will be twelve terrain parks available to skiers, which will have a total of a hundred and twenty five features. Visitors to Mount Snow will now be able to choose from a beginners’ learning park, snowskate playground, tree-skiing area, super pipe, hiking park, mini park, all-natural park, skate ramp, big air site and a wonderful base lodge that has been renovated. The base lodge now boasts seating at all the windows to look out over the mountain face and various terrain parks, flat screen television sets, internet access, outdoor fire pits and cozy lounges. A chairlift and quad will ensure that skiers have easy access to the terrain parks and facilities.

Most of the trails that can be enjoyed on the Carinthia Mountain are perpetually blanketed in perfect snow, thanks to the two hundred and fifty one fan guns that line the trails. Mount Snow, with all the latest high tech equipment, now has more fan guns than can be found at any other skiing destination in North America, in the bid to move with the times and offer visitors and avid winter sport enthusiasts everything they might need. Ski resorts are not just for skiers, anymore. Many now provide bicyclists with great summertime fun.

During the last 10 years, this trend has blossomed. According to the IMBA (International Mountain Biking Association), over 170 North American ski resorts now provide mountain-biking options. This number should continue to grow – ski resorts are seeing the opportunity for summer revenue, and many bicyclists now visit these new mountain trails.

Ski resorts are a natural choice for summer biking. They already have road access, gear shops and restaurants. They have beautiful scenery. Their dirt maintenance roads can become easy trails for beginners. Their open ski runs, once free of snow, are perfect terrain for constructing single-track biking trails.

Many ski resorts have gone a step further – for a fee, they whisk bikers and their bikes to the upper slopes, using ski lifts or gondolas. For many bikers, this is far preferable to slowly pedaling uphill on their own. It’s particularly appreciated by beginners, users of heavier full-suspension mountain bikes, and bikers that want to maximize their time spent riding downhill.
