Situated within the municipality of Lom in the Jotunheimen mountain area of Norway, the majestic Galdhopiggen is the highest mountain in Scandinavia reaching a height of 2,469 meters (8,100 feet). Although Galdhoppigen towers above the surrounding landscape, it is accessible on foot and the view from the top is awe-inspiring, making it a popular choice with “peakbaggers” – summit-focused hikers. Galdhoppigen also offers superb snow skiing and snowboarding terrain and as the area is perpetually covered in snow, it is a popular skiing destination in Northern Europe’s summer months from May/June through to mid November.

A new world record was set at The Oakley Arctic Challenge in Oslo recently. World-renowned snowboarding champion Terje HÃ¥konsen surpassed the previous record for highest air on a quarter pipe. Heikke Sorsa set the world record of 9.3 meters back in 2001, but Terje HÃ¥konsen went on to perform a backside 360 at 9.8 meters. A remarkable feat indeed. After such a fantastic maneuver, there is no doubt as to why HÃ¥konsen is called the greatest snowboarder ever.
