Get ready for your skiing winter vacation through the summer by keeping fit. Your skiing muscles need to be kept well toned with exercise if you are to enjoy your ski vacation to its fullest. Now is the time to enjoy the great summer sunshine and train for the skiing ahead. Most regular skiers opt for a different form of exercise during their non-skiing months to keep healthy and fit.

The best way no doubt is to ski through the summer months as well, but not every one can head for South America or New Zealand‘s vacation resorts. Everyone can however go hiking or biking to keep the calf muscles well toned. Make the most of the great outdoors during summer. People who live in large cities should try and go off for weekends to places where they can enjoy the pleasures of walking, hiking, biking or climbing.

Regular work-outs or running in the neighborhood park are other ways to keep fit. Join a gym or you can even get a personal trainer to get into shape and keep the muscles well toned. Aerobic exercise will help you to stay fit and healthy and prepare your body for the winter vacation to come. Try and get some serious exercise for at least forty-five minutes on four days a week.

Take your dog for a walk or run and both of you can get much needed exercise. A medium sized or big dog can be trained to take part in skijoring, a combination of dog sledding and cross country skiing. If you have a medium or large well-behaved dog, you can give it a try. It involves being pulled on cross country skis by one dog or more in harness. You can practice training your dog before your winter vacation. He has to get used to the harness and to obey basic commands.

A good diet with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables is essential to stay healthy. Unless you wish to lose weight make sure you are consuming sufficient calories if you workout regularly. Drink plenty of unsweetened liquids to replace the fluid loss from the body.

A vacation means fun at anytime of the day or night and the phrase après-ski says it all! A skiing vacation is much more than just skiing or snowboarding on slopes and very often skiers get together at the local pub or restaurant right after the last ski run in their ski gear. This is the traditional après-ski which originated in the Alps. Today it includes all forms of socializing by vacation skiers after they have finished skiing for the day.

Skiing vacation crowds have their favorite watering holes, cafés and discos at every resort. These are perfect places for connecting with others of similar interests and different age groups have their own haunts for fun après-ski. In fact many resorts are known more for their apres-ski pleasures than they are for the challenges they offer on the slopes.

Many ski resorts all over the world have an aura of glamour about them which often is the reason people choose them for a vacation. This is primarily because of the celebrities the resorts attract. Nothing can be more exciting on a ski vacation than spotting a famous pop star or actor on the slopes of Aspen, Colorado or a top model at St Anton, Austria. Except of course sharing a dance floor with them or a having a drink at the next table!

No wonder Aspen in America and St Anton in Europe are as famous for their après-ski as they are for their ski terrains! Other famous apres-ski resorts include Whistler which offers plenty of outdoor revelry as the ski lifts close. Garibaldi Lift Company, at the base of the Whistler Village gondola, and Merlin’s, at the base of Blackcomb are good places for a drink after skiing and are well known for their live music and mountain views.

Around the world there are famous apres-ski resorts like Bariloche in Argentina. Its nightlife, dining, outdoor activities, and casinos have made it the second most visited destination in Argentina. Chamonix-Mont Blanc is one of the most happening après-ski resorts of Europe, located strategically on the crossroads of Switzerland, Italy and France. From casinos to classical music, discos to fine dining, Chamonix offers it all.
