US Ski Resorts Reopen
Snowbasin is making history. For the first time it will be opening its slopes on weekends late in June, as the snowfall and cold weather has been favorable and the mountain still has enough snow to allow skiers and snowboarders an additional period of fun and excitement. It has been confirmed that as long as there remains enough snow to allow for safe winter sport activity, the resort will be open on weekends and skiers and snowboarders will be able to purchase day passes to enjoy the white slopes.
Skiing Amidst the Pyramids of Egypt
When one thinks of Egypt, images of the scorching hot deserts and breathtaking pyramids come to mind. Caravans of camels and nomadic tents that are scattered on the horizon are what we picture in Egypt. Who would think of the country as a destination for skiing? The news of Natasha Richardson’s death, daughter to famous Vanessa Redgrave and wife to Liam Neeson, shocked the world. What was to be an exciting and relaxing skiing adventure, turned to tragedy after a fall in which she suffered fatal head injuries. Another high profile incident occurred when a mother collided with a German politician on the slopes in Austria. She suffered a fatal brain injury while the politician, who was wearing a helmet, survived the incident. Enough proof to show that helmets are a necessity.
Upgrades at Sierra Ski Resorts
Ski resorts in California have been preparing for the upcoming ski season and have unveiled a number of new renovations and upgrades, not only in regard to safety but also features that will make the ski season a pleasure for all. Sierra resorts have stepped up their game to lure more winter sport fanatics to their slopes. So much has changed over the years at The Canyons, its name being one of them. It has now been changed for the fifth time, and will be known as just Canyons. Talisker Mountain Inc. are the new owners of Canyons, and recently shared their improvement projects to Canyons with the skiing and snowboarding industry. They are preparing their facilities and the slopes for the coming 2010 – 2011 season. As renovations begin to reach their final conclusion, it is obvious that a wonderful, exciting and new Canyons will be waiting to be explored.
Glade Skiing Action
Snow skiing is a popular winter sport in many parts of the world, and keen skiers often enjoy an off-the-beaten-track challenge – and glade skiing fits the bill. Glade skiing is basically any sort of downhill skiing that takes place through trees. But this doesn’t mean that anything goes, as most ski resorts have boundaries and restrictions imposed for the safety of skiers. Boundaries prevent skiers from inadvertently encroaching on busy trails, as well as keeping them clear of major hazards such as large streams and cliffs.
