The Salty Peaks Snowboard Shop is located in the ideal location in Salt Lake City, as it is in close proximity to world famous and very popular skiing and snowboarding resorts, such as Canyons, Snowbird, Park City and Brighton. It is nestled between two canyons, namely Cottonwood and Parley’s at Wasatch Mountain’s base. Not only is the shop conveniently situated for winter sport enthusiasts to do their last minute shopping, or to purchase a new snowboard while on vacation, but it is also home to a very intriguing attraction.

The Utah Snowboard Museum offers visitors the opportunity to delve into the history of snowboarding and skateboarding, as it has a collection of more than a thousand items on display. With display areas filled with boards, the ceiling as also become a display unit and each snowboard displays its make and date of manufacture. Depending on funding, it is hoped that the Utah Snowboard Museum can be expanded to accommodate more exhibits, and it is proud to boast the biggest snowboard collection in the world. The museum is a self-funded establishment that relies on donations to keep it running. It was founded in the year 1981, and by 1989, the museum was in full swing. Every make and model that snowboarders can think of is displayed in the museum that ranges from vintage snowboards to the most modern, creating a visual display of the evolution of snowboarding.

Another feature of the museum that makes it quite unique is the display that hosts prototype snowboards that date back to the 1940s and also exhibits boards that were used by the pioneers of snowboarding, as well as snowboarding champions. Visitors will also get to see the longest snowboards ever produced, and visitors are also recommended to explore the Snurfer room. Many of the pieces in the collection have either been sold or donated to the museum, and the Utah Snowboard Museum is constantly on the lookout for places to display either permanent or temporary collections, to promote the sport and educate the public on the history of snowboarding. The Utah Snowboard Museum is most definitely an attraction that all snowboard enthusiasts should visit, as they will be amazed at what is on display, whilst learning more about the sport they are passionate about.

The sport of snowboarding is an activity that the entire family can enjoy, but to get started one always needs the right equipment. Finding a suitable board can be a daunting task, especially with the number of different types of boards and manufacturers on the market. The first step in buying a snowboard is to decide which snowboarding discipline appeals to you, and after that you can hit the shops with confidence. A few important pieces of advice can also go a long way.

Snowboarders who are just starting out are recommended to rent a few different boards when out on the slopes, as this will allow them to explore what size and type of snowboard is better suited to them. Most resorts have a variety of boards available, as will nearby sport equipment stores. A snowboard is the most important aspect of your snowboarding equipment and it is therefore vital that snowboarders make the correct choice. There are basically two different types of boards to choose from, namely the Freestyle Snowboard and the Freeride Snowboard. Freestyle snowboards are generally the most appropriate boards for beginners and less advanced snowboarders. These boards are much more responsive than the Freeride Snowboards and allow snowboarding enthusiasts to advance their skills and become more confident on the snow. Freestyle boards are also more flexible and usually feature soft boots.

For advanced snowboarders, the Freeride board is recommended. These boards have a stiff flexing surface and feature special bindings to accommodate hard boots. Freeride boards perform well on powder and can be used to enjoy halfpipes and the excitement of terrain parks, as well as being used as an all-mountain board. Not as responsive as the Freestyle boards, Freeride boards should be used by snowboarders who have already honed their skills and capabilities. It is also advised that when buying a board, snowboarders inquire about the features and the anatomy of the board they are interested in to ensure that they know exactly what they are buying and how they can expect the board to perform. Purchasing a new board can be an exciting and comfortable experience if you gain knowledge and research your requirements before heading off to the nearest snowboard store. After finding the right snowboard, all that is left to do is to enjoy the slopes.

Bogus Basin

Situated just sixteen miles from Boise, Idaho, Bogus Basin Mountain Resort was opened to the public in 1942. It operates as a non-profit ski area under the direction of the Bogus Basin Recreation Association and so provides great services at affordable rates. Bogus Basin is one of the few resorts of this nature in the United States.

This remarkable resort stretches out over 2600 ski-able acres making it the second largest resort in the state in terms of size and use. It also means that visitors to Bogus Basin can enjoy 52 great ski trails, 37 kilometres of cross-country trails and a terrain park complete with halfpipe. The ski trails are rated 22% beginner, 45% intermediate and 33% advanced with both skiers and boarders making extensive use of them. Seven sturdy lifts provide easy access to the runs. Pico Mountain

A mid-sized ski resort with great facilities and friendly faces, Pico Mountain is located in central Vermont just east of Rutland. The resort offers both winter and summer vacation options and is situated right next to Killington Mountain, offering fantastic views. Pico has a summit elevation of 3967 ft and an enjoyable 1967 ft vertical drop.

Pico Mountain caters for both skiers and snowboarders in style. It has 48 ski trails which sprawl down the mountain in an area covering 200 acres.
