Whistler Blackcomb Ski Resort will be hosting the 2010 TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival from the 16th to the 25th of April 2010. The event highlights the latest developments within the sport of snowboarding and skiing, and offers day and night time events. Roxy Chicken Jam 2010

The annual Roxy Chicken Jam will be taking place at the Mammoth Mountain ski resort from the 25th to the 28th of March 2010, for the sixth consecutive year. It is an event that draws a large amount of competitors and spectators, as the top women in snow skiing battle it out on the slopes. The Roxy Chicken Jam is a Superpipe and Slopestyle event for girls, and carries a total prize amount of $50 000. The TTR World Women’s World Champion will be announced during the awards ceremony, after which there will be a live music concert for all to enjoy. Some of the performing artists will include N.A.S.A. and The Bravery.

Transworld TransAm Contest 2010

The Transworld TransAm Snowboarding contests consist of a six location talent tour. The fifth stop of this amazing competition, takes place on 6 March 2010, with Northstar at Tahoe being the venue. RIDE Shakedown US 2010

The RIDE Shakedown US 2010 is a snowboarding event for everyone to enjoy, as it challenges competitors and offers spectators non-stop competition action. Participants, male and female, are given the freedom to enjoy the competition and make the most of their time, in the two competition categories, namely Rail Jam and Big Air. Kids Snow Day 2010

After hosting a very successful event in December, the Horsefeathers Superpark Plana, will be hosting another Kids Snow Day on 13 March 2010. Participation by children is free of charge, and beginners’ classes are offered by Blue Tomato Teamriders. Children will learn useful tips in regard to snowboarding, and equipment rental is available on the Kids Snow Day, allowing everyone to enjoy this exciting event. In addition, goodie-bags will be given away, after an exciting day on the slopes.

Winter Fun at Stubai Glacier

Located in the Innsbruck region, Tyrol, Austria, is home to the biggest ski and snowboarding quarter of this area, namely Stubai Glacier. It is no wonder that Stubai Glacier is amongst the most popular skiing destinations in the world, and is also able to accommodate large groups and family members of all ages. For the ideal skiing vacation, look no further than Stubai Glacier.

With more than 150 kilometers of skiing and snowboarding wonder waiting for the adventurous traveler, Stubai Glacier caters for first time skiers as well as experts. Most of the terrain is adequate for beginner and intermediate skiers, while a small but distinguished part of Stubai Glacier is enjoyed by skilled athletes. The pistes and terrain varies from between 1,750 to approximately 3,210 meters above sea level, but has an established transportation system consisting of chairs, cable ways and ski lifts to assist skiers. There is not much cover on the slopes, so visitors to Stubai Glacier are advised to dress accordingly as temperatures can get very cold. For guaranteed snow, skiers can travel to Stubai Glacier between the months of October to June, however, contacting the resort ahead of time is recommended.

Skiers can explore the slopes while cross country skiing, take on a winter hiking expedition or have some fun at the Glacierpark Stubai Zoo, which is filled with boxes, kickerlines and rails. Children and teenagers will also be able to engage in exciting activities including ski instruction, kindergarden, ski camp, children’s restaurant and guided skiing excursions. Vancouver Winter Olympics 2010

The Vancouver Winter Olympic Games 2010 will be taking place from the 12th of February to the 28th of February 2010. This thrilling international event began in France in 1924, when the first Olympic Winter Games were held in Chamonix. Today, thousands of athletes train and compete to earn a place on their country’s team so as to participate in this annual event. Vancouver was given the honor of hosting this year’s prestigious event, and a competitive line-up of athletes from all over the world have already confirmed their participation.

Spectators will have a variety of activities and disciplines to view, as the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games will feature Alpine Skiing, Biathlon, Bobsleigh, Crosscountry, Curling, Figure Skating, Freestyle Skiing, Ice Hockey, Luge, Nordic Combined, Short Track, Skeleton, Ski Jumping, Snowboarding and Speed Skating. There are a number of venues for the different winter sport competitions, such as the Vancouver Olympic Centre, The Whistler Sliding Centre, Richmond Olympic Oval, Canada Hockey Place, Pacific Coliseum and Cypress Mountain. The Val Thorens Carnival Madness 2010, will kick off on the 22nd of February 2010, and run through to the 27th of February. It is a festival that not only allows skiers and snowboarders the opportunity to take to the slopes, but the festival spills out onto the streets of the town, entertaining the crowds with giant puppets, parade floats, music, contests and brass bands. Harbin Ice and Snow Festival 2010

For one of the biggest snow and ice sculpture festivals in the world, head to the Harbin Ice and Snow Festival 2010, this kicked off on the 5th of January and continues through to an undetermined date in February. Here festival goers will be able to marvel at a host of ice structures and detailed sculptures, and at night, their magnificence is illuminated by a light display. The festival was inaugurated in 1985 and has grown to incorporate many other activities such as boxing tournaments, fishing competitions, tea gardens, winter sport trade fair, skiing tours and dance tournaments.

The Harbin Ice and Snow Festival is an event not to missed, as it is rich in history, color, culture and skiing fun.
