Yllas - pronounced 'oo-lass' - ski resort is situated in Kolari, on the Swedish border of Finland, deep within the magical landscapes of West Lapland. An idyllic unspoiled Lappish vacation resort with stunning scenery and cozy log cabins dotting the woods, Yllas is made up of two Sami or ethnic Lappish villages, Akaslompolo is on the northern side of the fell and Yllasjarvi on the southern side.

One of Finnish Lapland’s oldest and most scenic ski vacation resorts, Ylläs has a skiing tradition since the 1930’s even before it was accessible by road. It is the perfect place for a quiet break or an action packed trip. Despite its popularity it has not lost its traditional flavor or charm, nor been tainted overtly by commercialism. Its 43 runs are spread over seven fells that have a 463meter vertical, the highest in the country; Yllas is also home to the longest ski run in Finland of three km. Many runs are perfect for beginners and families.

The slopes are four kilometers from the resort and many are above the tree-line. You can ski all the way back or use the free ski bus link. Snowboarders will experience plenty of thrills at the fine terrain park and pipes. The greatest attraction is the hundreds of km of outstanding cross country trails, and the Pallas-Ylläs National Park provides unforgettable experiences. The stunning natural beauty and magical atmosphere of Finnish Lapland is quite unique. The area is famous for its `blue light` in the daytime and northern lights at night. You may be lucky and catch a glimpse of the fabled northern lights, the most spectacular light show on earth or a family of wild moose.

There is a selection of colorful local bars and restaurants for après-ski, a good supermarket and other facilities here. Little has changed over the years and you can feel the original Lappish atmosphere at Yllas. Most hotels and cafes are family run, with second and third generation serving there now. You can stay at hotels, log cabins or a hotel on the slopes.
