A Picturesque Setting for Skiing

Argentiere is a picturesque ski resort nestled deep in the Chamonix Valley which is situated high in the Haute Savoie region of France, close to the borders of Switzerland and Italy. Surrounded by dramatically rugged and picturesque peaks, including the spectacular Mont Blanc and the Chamonix Aiguilles, it is one of the most picturesque and exciting places. The traditional Savoyarde village of Argentière lies just eight km higher up the valley from the legendary Chamonix, a picturesque old village at the foot of Europe’s highest mountain, the awesome Mont Blanc.

Argentiere is the perfect place for a relaxed ski vacation and offers slopes and trails of all levels of difficulty. Beginners can acquire their ski legs on the nursery slopes of Chosalets and then progress to the gentle slopes at Vormaine. Powder is abundant in Argentiere and there are also the gullies in La Tour to have a bash at some jumps. The Grands Montets lift system at Argentiere accesses some of the most exciting skiing anywhere in the world. A trail begins at the summit where the lift ends and there are numerous off-piste options, such as the wicked Pas de Chevre.

The valley at Argentiere is renowned for its steep black runs and non-pisted runs. The area is so vast that you could be there for years and not ski all of it. It may be a good idea to get a local guide to accompany you and show you the various runs, lest you get lost. Take the piste or any other route down to Logon and, if you wish, continue on down the well cannoned Pierre a Ric to Argentière. This is a thrilling vertical descent of over two kilometers.

Argentiere has a friendly and informal atmosphere and is perfect for a relaxed vacation with family or friends. There are a few cozy bars and restaurants to socialize after the skiing is over for the day. The ‘Office Bar’ is the social HQ in the centre of the village. The Chamonix valley offers an amazing 150kms of pistes that can be divided into four areas that are linked by an efficient bus service. Between them they offer high altitude blue and red runs and the Grands Montets glacier with unbeatable snow. The Vallee Blanche descent provides 24kms of unforgettable skiing in stunning scenery.
