Pomerelle Ski Area
Situated amidst the scenic Sawtooth National Forest, Pomerelle Ski Area enjoys an elevation of 8000 ft – just 1000 ft below the mountains summit. It sees 500 inches of annual snowfall and it’s 24 trails stretch out over 500 acres of well-organised and utilized land. Pomerelle offers something for beginner, intermediate and advanced skiers but it has a special focus on families with small children. The slopes are groomed regularly and are accessible by one of three ski lifts. Its varied terrain is popular with both skiers and snowboarders. Nordic loops are available nearby.
Pomerelle has both a terrain park and a half-pipe. It offers 9 km of cross-country trail, and its longest run is 8 000 ft long. The trails are rated 35% beginner, 40% intermediate and 25% advanced. The beginner trails are a great place for even the smallest children to learn the sport under the expert guidance of a number of trained ski and snowboarding instructors. If you feel your little one is a bit small for skis, there is child care available. Otherwise you or a family member might enjoy benefiting from the women’s and children’s programs available.
The resort is open for skiing between November and April each year but that does not mean that it closes down when there is no snow. During the summer months Pomerelle offers scenic lift rides, hiking, mountain biking, picnicking, horseback riding, fishing, volleyball and horseshoe pits. It also makes for a great venue for class reunions, weddings and business meetings. Scrumptious food is generally provided in the form of a great outdoor grill.
