Grand Targhee

A resort with a reputation for great snow, Grand Targhee Resort can be found in the Targhee National Forest. The resort has a summit elevation of 10,000 ft and an annual snowfall average of 500 inches – certainly you’ll find no shortage of great powder at this stunning resort. The family-orientated resort has two mountains, great trails and superb facilities.

With a vertical drop of 2,395 ft, Targhee offers 82 great ski trails to their visitors. The trails are serviced by five strategically placed lifts and the majority of trails cater to intermediate or slightly more advanced skiers. However, beginners are not overlooked and the trails are graded 10% beginner, 70% intermediate and 20% advanced. The trails are spread out over a 2,000 acre area which makes for great variety and even better views. If you cross to Peaked Mountain, you’ll find unbeatable snowcat powder skiing. The mountain has 3,000 acres of skiable area and features a 2,800 ft vertical drop. If you prefer cross-country skiing, Targhee also has 15 km of cross-country skiing. Snowtubing is a popular recreational activity but you will not find any half pipe or terrain parks for the snowboarders.

Children are well catered for by the Kid’s Club where any child between 2 months and 5 years can be cared for. The older children may take to the slopes and start to develop their skills from an early age while the little ones will spend their time warm and well-cared for indoors.

Alternate activities include a trip to Yellowstone or the nearby National Elk Refuge. You can also try ice-skating, snowshoeing, a sleigh ride dinner, dogsled tours or tandem paragliding. The village itself carries the aura of a small-town western village and has a number of restaurants, retail shops, a full service bar, an activity centre and conference rooms. If you’re looking to relax, there is a great massage service available.

Grand Targhee Resort is also open in the summer months and offers golf, rafting, hot-air ballooning, fishing and glider rides. Children enjoy the nature-orientated Kid’s Camps while adults and teenagers will enjoy the parks and the music festivals regularly held here.
