Badger Mountain Ski Area

A miniature ski area with an incomparable small-town feel, Badger Mountain Ski Area is the perfect place to go for a little bit of skiing. The mountain serves the small community of Waterville and the hill is owned by the town. Volunteers ensure that the slopes stay in good condition and everyone pitches in to keep Badger Mountain a safe place to ski. Tow tickets and season passes are very affordable and you’ll find that instruction is available when needed. This micro-resort may not have a lot in terms of trails, but what it does have is a great family-orientated atmosphere with a focus on safety and care.

Badger Mountain has a small summit elevation of 3 800 ft and an 800 ft vertical drop. There are only five trails and three ski lifts. The longest run is 1 700 ft so if you’re looking for a longer trail, you’ll find it. The ski area is only about 20 acres big but still it manages to cater for most levels of skier. The trails are rated 33% beginner, 34% intermediate and 33% advanced. Snowboarding is allowed on most of the slopes and there is even 5 kilometres of cross-country trails and some snow tubing to be enjoyed.

When you get hungry, the ski area’s cafeteria is run by the Lions Club and is a great place to grab a bite to eat. Of course, a resort of this size has no need to provide ample accommodation but those visiting relatives in the area or who are simply passing through may find accommodation in Waterville. Remember though, that if you’re planning to ski here you’d best bring your own equipment – there’s no rental services available.

Badger Mountain Ski Area is open between January and March and the trails are groomed daily by one of the local farmers. If you’re going to be the area during that time, why not organise a season pass for your family and make use of this great little miniature ski area.
