Mad River Glen: Ski It If You Can“. This slogan has become known far and wide, even beyond the borders of North America. Vermont’s Mad River Glen takes pride in its challenging slopes. Not much has changed since its establishment by Roland Palmedo in 1947, providing visitors with an authentic snow skiing experience – no snowboarders allowed. Run by a non-profit cooperative, Mad River Glen is all about skiing wherever your heart desires, across wide open runs, maneuvering through trees or gliding down cliffs, this is where the experts go wild.

Located in Fayston Vermont’s Green Mountain range, Mad River Glen may not be a massive resort but it does take in 915 acres of ski area including 45 trails and a large section of off-piste skiing. An impressive vertical of 2037 feet, Mad River Glen offers skiing for all levels. The terrain has been rated 30% beginner, 30% intermediate and 40% expert. Interestingly, Vermont’s Mad River Glen has America’s last remaining single chairlift. Another 3 lifts will also transport you up into this winter world of wonder. About 250 inches of snow falls on Mad River Glen each year, combine this with some snowmaking and you’ve got perfect ski conditions. As mentioned already, snowboarding is banned at Mad River Glen. Why? To keep the original ski character of the area. Snowboarders are replaced on Mad River Glen’s slopes by telemark skiers. In fact, the mountain has become known as a telemark mecca.

Beginners can start out on runs such as Fox, Snail and Birdland. They can also benefit from the fantastic ski school at Mad River Glen. All trails are clearly marked. Intermediate skiers can try out Quacky, Porcupine, Antelope and other great runs. Experts can enjoy the challenge of Chute, Fall Line, Glade and Liftline. The adrenaline-pumping excitement never ends.

Mad River Glen provides all the other necessities such as child care, equipment rental, equipment repair and ski patrol. Not far from Mad River Glen are a number of establishments where skiers can enjoy a delicious meal or book a room for the night. Mad River Glen accredited dining venues include Hyde Away Inn, Localfolk Smokehouse, The Common Man, Valley Pizzeria, Jay’s Restaurant and Millbrook Inn. Nearby accommodation establishments often have special deals with Mad River Glen and provide a complete package. Among these are Beaver Pond Farm, 1824 House, Featherbed Inn, Waitsfield Inn, Lareau Farm Inn, Mountain View Inn, West Hill House, Mad River in and Aga at the Sugartree.
