The state of Washington is already known for breathtaking scenery and sharp contrasts – what better way to see the snow-capped mountains and surrounding forests than on a pair of skis or a snowboard? Washington State may not have the biggest, most amazing ski areas or resorts in the country, but that does not mean it is lacking. You’ll find plenty of superb snow-orientated action at any of the state’s ski areas or resorts. Some of these are small and offer only the most basic facilities, while others are relatively large and cater to every need imaginable. Whatever sort of resort you are looking for, you can be sure that you’ll find it in Washington.
One example of an excellent great skiing location is the White Pass Ski Area. This mid-sized resort offers 32 great trails, breathtaking scenery, top class instruction and a terrain park with a half pipe. The resort also caters to the demands of cross-country skiers with an impressive 18 kilometres of scenic cross-country trails. The resort has ample lodging, friendly childcare facilities, equipment rental and much, much more. If, on the other hand, you’re looking for something a bit smaller, you could try Echo Valley. The resort has eight different trails, four lifts and 35 kilometres of cross-country trails. Echo Valley is a non-profit resort with a strong sense of community and family. Everything is surprisingly well run by numerous volunteers and the atmosphere is one of a close-knit, caring community.
If you prefer bigger resorts with a bit more fanfare, you might try The Summit at Snoqualmie. This massive resort features 96 unbeatable trails, 30 different lifts, night skiing, 55 kilometres of cross-country skiing, snowboarding, two terrain parks, a super pipe, a half pipe, great accommodation and satisfying dining. The resort also offers good instruction, great childcare, equipment rental and just about anything else you could possibly need from a resort.
