In 1985, Doug Meyers joined the Lake Louise Ski Club and started to ski competitively with the team. His natural talent for skiing was inspiring and his dedication and passion for the sport carried him to the top fifteen in the Canadian Juvenile Finals. Between the years of 1990 to 1997, Doug started coaching skiers and worked his way up to head coach and close friend of everyone at the Lake Louise Mountain Resort and Ski Area.

Tragically, Doug Meyers lost his fight against brain cancer on 10 April 2003, at the tender age of 30, which was a devastating loss to friends and family, and Lake Louise. In his honor, Alpine Canada Alpin and the Lake Louise Ski Club will be hosting the fourth Doug Meyers Memorial Cup Race, remembering a friend and skier that had an enthusiasm for life and a love for people.

The two day race, which takes place on the 9th of February and the 10th of February 2007, will once again attract skiers from all over the country to take on the white slopes of the mountain and enjoying the breathtaking natural scenes that once captivated Doug Meyers. Lake Louise Mountain Resort was awarded a gold award by the 2007 Calgary Herald Readers’ Choice Awards, in the ski and snowboarding resort division.

The Doug Meyers Memorial Cup Race is one the most celebrated events of the year at Lake Louise, as it is not only a fun and challenging race for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts, but brings everyone a little closer to a dear friend and warm memories.
