Eldora

In operation since 1962, Eldora Mountain Resort is the closest resort to Denver. It offers excellent skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing and provides a great family orientated atmosphere. With a 1600 ft vertical drop and 53 trails to choose from, you can be sure that Eldora wont disappoint!

Families will be glad to know that Eldora caters to children by offering the Eldorables Children’s program. It is also home to a Children’s Centre and there are a variety of multiple lesson programs available. While the kids are taken care of by trained and reliable staff, mom might want to try one of the many women’s skiing programs available. The runs are graded: 20% beginner, 50% intermediate, 30% advanced. In addition to this, high-tech grading equipment keeps the slopes in tiptop shape all day long.

Freestylers can choose from four terrain parks and are invited to try the 500 ft superpipe if they are at an advanced enough level. The parks cater for various levels so even if you’re just starting out, you’ll find plenty to keep you entertained.

Eldora also has a Nordic Centre which features 45 km of grooms and marked cross-country trails. There are 12 ski lifts and the alpine skiing area covers roughly 680 acres of land. The longest run is 10 560 ft but you may well find something more adventurous by exploring the little paths that wind between trails.

When your stomach starts to growl, you can head for a number of great mouth-wateringly good restaurants. The Corona Bowl Bar, The Lodge, The Lookout and Indian Peaks Lodge are popular favourites. There is not much accommodation right at the resort but you will find plenty only half an hour away in Boulder. It’s best to shop around before you choose your accommodation.

Eldora Mountain Resort is open between November and April and has virtually everything you could need at a family holiday skiing destination. Book early and you’ll not only bag a great holiday, but you’ll save some cash too.
