So what can skiers look forward to in the 2008-2009 snow sport season?

Loon Mountain, Lincoln, will be adding 50 new tower guns and 20 new Boyne Low-E fans guns to significantly increase snow-making capabilities. The ongoing South Peak expansion sees fourteen acres of additional terrain being made available by means of two additional trails. Moreover, Sarsparilla’s handle tow is being replaced with a magic carpet lift, which is more user friendly for beginners. To assist skiers who have progressed past the beginner stage, the handle tow will be moved to allow access to the upper part of the trail.

Bretton Woods is well into its decade-long improvement project and resort guests will have the benefit of a new spa, as well as a conference center in the upcoming snow skiing season. The four-season Canopy Tours offers guests added excitement with its zip-line 1,000 foot descent, hiking trails and suspension bridges, while a rope tow, sledding hill and new playground equipment have been added to the Kinderwoods Playground at Bretton Woods.

Tommy’s Trail, Oompah Flats and Gibson Chute are just three of the new ski trails being added at Cranmore Mountain, North Conway, bringing the total number of ski trails at the resort to fifty. Cannon Mountain will also be adding a new trail, as well as six additional glades and to make navigating the mountain easier for guests, they will be naming the as yet unnamed existing trails.

Pats Peak, Henniker, is busy increasing its already impressive snow making facilities and are adding lighting to allow guests to enjoy night skiing on100% of its terrain. Improvements are also being made to the base lodge, ticketing systems, seasonal lockers and food service options, while the rental shop is stocking up on a whole range of top quality gear. Wildcat Mountain, Pinkham Notch is adding several rails and boxes at their relocated terrain park and the ZipRider zip line will be offering dare-devils four cables to take an exhilarating ride through the air.

Determined to continue its long history of ski racing, Dartmouth Skiway, Lyme Center, blasted and regarded around 2000,000 square feet of its FIS competition slalom and giant slalom trails and has increased their snow making capacity. Recreational skiers will have the benefit of all these improvements. At the Eastman Cross Country Center, Grantham, a new backcountry trail connects John Glenn’s trail with the golf course. The Jackson XC Ski Touring Foundation, Jackson, has construction a new FIS-compliant competition course.
