Levi

Levi, located in the Levitunturi mountainous area, is the largest downhill skiing center in Finland and Lapland’s most popular tourist resort. Located in Kittila district, Levi boasts of Finland’s only gondola lift to take you to the top. Its broad fell area has pistes for everyone from novices to the more experienced, including a World Cup black run, which has a 52% steep final stretch that almost makes you fly.

This exotic Lappish resort in the midst of an unspoiled Arctic wonderland promises unpopulated slopes and snow-sure skiing from November to May. Twenty-six lifts access the 45 slopes so there are seldom any lift lines to contend with. The longest run is 2.5 km and fifteen slopes are illuminated. Snowboarding is extremely popular too at this family ski resort.

The most extensive skiing area in Finland also offers the added attraction of a chance to see the magical Northern Lights. Excellent accommodation and a warm friendly atmosphere make Levi an ideal winter vacation destination. The thrill of skiing at alluring blue twilight or rosy dawn in the pristine surroundings of Lapland’s conservation area, in the deep silence of the fells is an experience of a lifetime.

Finland is the home of cross-country skiing and Levi has over 230 km of trails suitable for both classic and free techniques of the country’s favorite sport. Thirty kilometers of these trails are illuminated, and the longer cross country trails are great for overnight camping, campfires and cookouts.

Another popular non-skiing activity is snowmobiling, the fastest means of transportation in the fells. Levi has over 600km of Finland’s best snowmobile tracks, including a track to the top of Levi fell. These tracks are 6 to 8 meters wide and Levi hosts Europe’s biggest snowmobile race, the Karcher King of Snowmobile every year.

Levi is a cosmopolitan ski resort with a good choice of bars, nightclubs, restaurants and off the slope entertainment. Everything, including the ski lifts, health spa and supermarket, is within walking distance. Do not miss a chance to visit the famous Ice Hotel or a dinner date with Santa. A magical reindeer safari and a ride with boisterous huskies through the sparkling winter landscape are other memorable experiences. Or try your hand at ice-fishing or Icelandic horse-riding in this unique winter wonderland.
