Whether you enjoy participating in ski races or you prefer watching them, you’ll really enjoy the St Croix/O’Brien Cross-Country Ski Race. Registration for this year’s race has already opened and places are getting booked up fast. The race is scheduled to take place on Sunday, January 25 at the William O’Brien State Park on Highway 95, not far from Marine on St. Croix.

The 38th Annual Marine on St. Croix/O’Brien Cross-Country Ski Race will see skiers of all abilities exploring the striking St. Croix River valley as they participate in this great family-orientated event. There really is something for everyone at this event, from small, inexperienced children to die-hard skiing fanatics. Even non-skiing family and friends are invited to join in on the fun and cheer from the sidelines where there is plenty of race-side action to keep them entertained. So exactly what races can skiers and fans expect to enjoy at the St. Croix/O’Brien Cross-Country Ski Race? Well, the main event will once again be the 25km classic and skate races which will take competitors twice around the entire park. A lot of people who participate in the City of Lakes Loppet, the Mora Vasaloppet and the American Birkenbiener ski races will find the ‘twice around the park’ to be a great way to warm up and prepare for their main events. For those who are a little less skilled, there is the once around the park 12.5 km classic and skate race. Even kids can get in on the action as there are a variety of races with age appropriate distances that are scheduled to take place in the afternoon when it is usually a bit warmer. This year the children’s races will fall in line with the St. Croix Valley MYSL Youth Ski Club’s weekly ski meetings, giving them added appeal.

A great variety of local merchants and manufacturers will be donating the prizes, gift certificates and a variety of other goodies for each race, making it worth your while. A raffle is also scheduled to take place after the awards ceremony. The proceeds from the entire event will be used by the St. Croix Valley Youth Ski Club, benefiting children of all ages in the area. If this sounds like your kind of fun, make sure you don’t miss out on the 2009 Marine on St. Croix/O’Brien Cross-Country Ski Race!
