Merger of Major Lake Tahoe Ski Resorts
Situated on the north shore of Lake Tahoe in California, the popular Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley ski resorts are set to join forces from the start of the 2011-12 snow sport season. Combining operations with a common ownership, new season passes and lift tickets will see patrons skiing and snowboarding on both mountains.

Julia Mancuso – A Bright Star
Julia Mancuso is an American alpine skier and Olympic Gold Medalist, having been the winner of the giant slalom at the 2006 Winter Olympics. Born on 9 March 1984 in Reno, Nevada, Julia is the second of three daughters and, with being raised in Tahoe, she considers herself to be a true California girl. Her parents have a great love for sports, nature and outdoor life, which has rubbed off on their three daughters. Up until Julia was six years old, the family split their time between Squaw Valley Ski Resort and Kauai, Hawaii, with the result being that Julia learned to love the vastly different climates equally.
The Ski Tour Countdown
The world’s best skiers are getting set for The Ski Tour (TST) which will take place at four premier ski vacation resorts in America – Sun Valley in Idaho, Breckenridge and Aspen/Snowmass in Colorado and Squaw Valley in California. The prize money for the skier cross or skier half pipe competitions is $500,000. The competition will be televised nationally and a simultaneous super concert will include some of the country’s biggest music performances in the mountains.
