Geilo is one of southern Norway’s most popular ski resorts, nestled between the towering Hallingskarvet Mountain and Hardangervidda, the largest mountain plateau in Northern Europe. It is situated halfway between Oslo, the country’s capital, and Bergen, and belongs to the municipality of Hol, the highest area in Hallingdal. The spectacular scenery, proximity to the fjords and Geilo’s excellent range of pistes, make it a much sought after vacation destination.

The charming, friendly village of Geilo has hosted international guests for over 100 years, and has earned the reputation of a family ski resort of global standards. A large part of its attraction is its Norwegian character, which is unchanged despite its popularity, and modern stores stand next to historical buildings and workshops of traditional local craftsmen.

The slopes in Geilo cater for all ages and ability levels, from beginner to expert. Enjoy fabulous views of the village and Hallingdal Valley as you ski downhill or go cross-country skiing. The 36 downhill runs are connected by 19 lifts and the longest piste is two kilometers in length. As much as 215km of prepared slopes for cross-country skiing in the Geilo/Ustaoset area include terrain on high mountains and in woodlands. Moreover, 26kms are prepared for skating, and five kms are floodlit.

Off -slopes activities include horse- and reindeer-drawn sleighs, hiking, tobogganing, ice-fishing, ice-skating, waterfall climbing. Snowmobiles provide an alternative means of viewing the snow-blanketed landscape, while saunas, a cinema, a fitness center and indoor swimming pool provide indoor entertainment. A new concept here is breakfast skiing that takes place in the morning at Taubanekroa, where the snow canons ensure good quality dry snow in the slopes.

The winter season at Geilo runs from November to May with low season rates being charged from the beginning of the season until December 19, and again from January 5 to February 6. You can fly to Oslo and make use of a direct transfer from/to Oslo Airport Gardermoe on designated days.

Another attraction at Geilo is the new spa, which is Norway’s largest Spa & Fitness Centre. Vestlia Resort offers a fantastic relaxation and bathing section as well as nine treatment rooms where they offer massage, body care and skin care. They also have a huge fitness centre with a variety of exercise programs.
