Sweden’s Bydalen ski resort is situated in the magnificent Jamtland and is made up of four areas. The natural habitat of the area adds the excitement of spotting wildlife like reindeer and lynx to a superb ski vacation. The stunningly beautiful region is surrounded by majestic mountain ranges and holds several large, still lakes in its midst, including the fifth-largest lake in Sweden. The fauna and flora provide a perfect setting for walks and excursions. Bydalen is the second largest ski area in Jamtland and has a relaxed ambience that is perfect for a family vacation. Traditional apartments and cabins are within walking distance of the slopes. The personal touch of family owned lodging adds to the charm and invariably one of the members of the family acts as a guide at the resort.
Bydalen ski resort has 59 slopes covering 49km of trails, suitable for all levels. The slopes are serviced by 15 lifts and the longest run is three kilometers in length. Two snowboard parks and two half-pipes await snowboarders. Thirty kilometers of groomed cross-country trails and hundreds of kilometers of ungroomed slopes suitable for off-piste skiing are available around Bydalen. Ski schools run by the resort helps first timers find their way around the slopes.
Other than skiing there are opportunities to go on horse-drawn sleighs, snowmobile safaris, ice-fishing, dog-sledding and indulge in a traditional sauna. Bydalen is determined to see that all its visitors have good time and the impression everybody takes back home is how charming and relaxed this ski resort is. Après-ski is relatively subdued here with a few bars and restaurants being the focus of activities off the slopes. A discotheque, ice bar and several cafes are other popular attractions. There are several local handicrafts in stores and traditional Laplander art is promoted at the resort.
The season at Bydalen runs from the beginning of December and one can ski here till the end of March. The best way to get to Bydalen ski resort is to take a flight to Ostersund via Stockholm and transfer by bus or hire a car.
