It is estimated that the development of Revelstoke Mountain Resort, which is situated on Mount Mackenzie, will be completed over a period of fifteen years at a cost of around $1 billion. The completed ski resort will include 500,000 square feet of commercial space, a golf course, 1,500 resort condominiums, 2,000 hotel suites, 850 townhouses and 550 single-family lots.
The development is already well underway and the 2007/2008 snow skiing season will open with 4,700 vertical feet of lift-serviced terrain, which allows access to more than 1,500 acres of champagne snow. The day lodge has been renovated and expanded to include a restaurant with a deck, as well retail and rental outlets. Twenty-seven gladed and groomed trails, open bowls and steep chutes are waiting for snow skiing enthusiasts to enjoy.
Revelstoke Cat Skiing offers access by snowcats to a vast area of untracked terrain where skiers can enjoy the incredible powder skiing conditions of the Selkirks along with breath-taking scenery. The only way to get to some of the most spectacular skiing areas of the impressive Selkirk and Monashees mountain ranges is by helicopter. Heli-skiing opens up 500,000 acres of terrain with more than 200 established runs. Open bowls, glaciers and tree skiing in untracked powder presents an exciting challenge for seasoned skiers.
Ongoing development will result in many exciting features at the Revelstoke Mountain Resort for the 2008/2009 snow skiing season. These will include access to North America’s highest vertical drop (fourth highest in the world) plus 6,000 feet of lift serviced vertical.
Revelstoke Mountain Resort is in the fortunate position of having an average snow-fall of 1,200 cm per year.
