Maverick Mountain

Nestled in the mountains of southwest Montana, you’ll find a big mountain just waiting to be ridden. The Maverick Mountain Ski Area may not be the biggest of its kind, but it offers great trails for every level skier combined with pure air and magnificent scenery; what more could you want?

Maverick Mountain is big. It has a summit elevation of 8820 ft and a vertical drop of 2120 ft. However, the ski area is not wide and you’ll find that all 18 of the mountains trails are spread out over an area that is only 130 acres big. Fortunately the trails merge together here and there and you will be able to ‘customize’ your ski trail to some degree. For example, you can start off slow and choose a faster path halfway down or you can choose something that maintains the same exciting pace the whole way. Most of the trails start in the same place and there are only two ski lifts as more simply aren’t necessary. The trails are rated 20% beginner, 35% intermediate, 35% advanced and 10% expert. There is no terrain park but most snowboarders make use of the halfpipe instead.

The ski area has also placed an emphasis on caring for the needs of the whole family and you’ll find a childcare centre, children‘s programs and women’s programs. Nobody needs to be left at home when you take the family to Maverick. Both beginners and more advanced skiers and boarders benefit from the group and private lessons offered at Maverick Ski Area and the hospitality here is great!

If you’re not on the slopes, you’ll find that there are plenty of hot springs available to soothe tired muscles. The Grasshopper Inn has a great old-school feel to it and has a games room for the kids. As short trip around the area will enable you the chance to try sleigh rides, cross-country skiing and great home-cooked meals. Don’t forget to give Maverick Mountain Ski Area a try the next time you visit Montana!
